I need it only for work related IM (Lync).<\/p>\n<p>On Ubuntu, installing it is a simple <strong>sudo apt-get install pidgin-sipe<\/strong>. I loved how it just worked initially. But, you know problems are going to start soon!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read Error<\/strong> when you connect : To fix it, add the following to your <strong>.bashrc<\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>$ vi ~\/.bashrc<\/p>\n<p># add this line and save<br \/>\nalias mypidgin=&#8217;<strong>export NSS_SSL_CBC_RANDOM_IV=0; \/usr\/bin\/pidgin<\/strong> &amp;&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>$ source ~\/.bashrc<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Then start pidgin from the terminal.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>$ <strong>mypidgin<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I found this answer after Google Searches on <a href=\"http:\/\/askubuntu.com\/questions\/147706\/lync-formerly-office-communicator-with-pidgin-sipe-read-error\">askubuntu<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.mattwoodward.com\/2012\/08\/pidgin-sipe-and-read-error-on-ubutnu.html\">Matt Woodward&#8217;s Blog<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next problem, the <strong>pidgin window doesn&#8217;t show up<\/strong> &#8230; So here&#8217;s the workaround that I use that works for me.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>$ <strong>mypidgin<\/strong><br \/>\n$ <strong>pidgin<\/strong><br \/>\nExiting because another libpurple client is already running.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ignore the warning, but at least the window will show up.
