I wanted Windows 7, but our IT Department didn&#8217;t have an image yet. So an ancient rock-solid OS is what I got. Believe it or not Win-XP is still the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.w3schools.com\/browsers\/browsers_os.asp\">most popular OS<\/a>. Yes folks, please stop bashing Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>OK &#8211; My Dev box is Linux and my home laptop is a MacBook Pro. Yet, I still feel most productive on Windows. So, as a developer, I must have at least these apps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Web\/Net-Apps\n<ul>\n<li>Mozilla Firefox plus plugins<\/li>\n<li>Google Chrome plus plugins<\/li>\n<li>WinSCP<\/li>\n<li>Putty<\/li>\n<li>FileZilla<\/li>\n<li>No Machine NX Client<\/li>\n<li>VNC Viewer<\/li>\n<li>TCP View<\/li>\n<li>Skype<\/li>\n<li>Synergy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Development\n<ul>\n<li>Apache Ant<\/li>\n<li>Apache Tomcat<\/li>\n<li>Araxis Merge<\/li>\n<li>Eclipse plus plugins<\/li>\n<li>JDK 6<\/li>\n<li>MKS Toolkit (or some Unix type environment)<\/li>\n<li>Notepad++<\/li>\n<li>Perforce (or equivalent VCS)<\/li>\n<li>SnagIt (screen capture)<\/li>\n<li>PDF Creator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft Office 2007\n<ul>\n<li>Outlook<\/li>\n<li>Excel<\/li>\n<li>Word<\/li>\n<li>PPT<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Media\n<ul>\n<li>VMWare Player<\/li>\n<li>VLC Media Player<\/li>\n<li>Bit Torrent<\/li>\n<li>DVD Shrink<\/li>\n<li>iTunes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Other\n<ul>\n<li>WinZip, 7-Zip or any archiving utility<\/li>\n<li>Google Desktop<\/li>\n<li>AutoHotkey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just got a new Dell E6510 with Win-XP (yeah its 2010!).\u00a0 Win-XP is almost 10 years old and it&#8217;s still kicking!
